Serious WTF? on LJ design

In this thread in lj_releases, burr86 alleges:
Problem with a dropdown menu is that it doesn't let you choose multiple groups.

My jaw hit the deck. Now, I've had problems doing just that on LJ, but I always figured it was intended as a feature, not a designer incompetance.

You see, picking multiples in a drop-down list is enabled by this: <select name="test" multiple="yes"> - it's an option in the base html for the drop-down box. No javashitscript required.

Don't believe me? See this tutorial, which is the FIRST result in a Google search on [drop down form].

Between the two of us we probably have twice as much experience than their entire design department put together.

Let's see: I have been doing it since 1996, you've been doing it since 1992, so that's 24 years right there. Hell, we probably have more combined years of design experience that most of them are old...

And when you count general experience in the computer industry... Mine goes back to '65, if I remember correctly.

The response to your comment confuses me. "That makes a select box, not a dropdown"???

What about the size attribute? eek
