Car wish list

My cars have always come to me. I'd would need it, and it was available. I've never bought a car from a car lot.

So, I thought I'd put out what I need in a set of wheels:

* SUV (or minivan, maybe crew cab truck) - I need to be able to sleep two in the back on camping trips
* 4WD/AWD
* tow hitch/wiring
* roof rack
* 6 ft min rear bed with seats down
* Seats 4+ w 4 doors
* << 100,000 miles
* Working A/C, heater and fan
* Automatic transmission in good repair
* not white, not crunchy
* no major problems
* No oil leaks
* no payments - < $15,000

Some of these are not as critical as others. My only reason for preferring SUVs over trucks is that they seat 4, rather than 2, and have a covered bed with flexible cargo/seating space. I regard them as flexible trucks, and drive that way. I'd go for a full sized van, but it might not fit in the garage at work.

Nissan XTerra
Not sure what your budget is, but look into the Nissan Xterra (the first generation, 2000-2001). Built on a real truck chassis, it's strong and durable. We picked one up used a couple years ago, and have been happy with it.

Isuzus are really reliable. I put almost 230,000 on it before it was totaled. My bil has close to 400,000 on his now, and he's hard on vehicles. One of the guys my sil works with got a little Isuzu Amigo with 150,000 thinking that he'd drive the wheels off it and get another car in a few years. That was 6 years ago. Amigo still running strong.
