Stitches

I hate being poor. I went to Stitches West on Friday, along with my SO. It was in Santa Clara, so not a long drive, free parking, and we had discount coupons to get in. So, not even as much as the Quilt, Craft Sew disaster.

Now Stitches is a yarn show, with an emphasis on knitting. Crochet is the bastard stepchild of the fiber world these days. Too bad - I don't knit, and I sure as fuck don't make socks or berets.

But ooooooooh, the lovely fibers!! Nice, soft, fuzzy, but pricey fibers! Look, pet, admire, check price, cringe, move on. Seriously, I buy my wool as factory seconds on eBay - I don't pay $20 - $40/lb for it! Then there were blends, and specialties like bamboo and hemp. And the silk.... *sigh* When a single skein is nearly $30, you just want to cry. What you don't want to do is buy.

There were a few "bargain bin" items that were worth snagging - some purple wool that wants to be a scarf or something, a flat crochet hook. But unlike many, we did not walk out with a lot of stuff. We didn't even fill a small backpack - couldn't afford it.

Maybe next year.

My stash is, thankfully, at full capacity so I've been very good about not buying new year. Except for the cotton stuff that I just got to make a blanket with. And the stuff my mom bought me so I could make vast numbers of washcloths...

But I've been good, really! ;-)
