Writer's Block: 420 friendly?

A number of U.S. states are planning to legalize marijuana. Do you agree or disagree with this policy, and why?

I personally can't use it - it makes me want to throw up. That being said, I agree. It should be legal, completely and at the federal level.

It should be regulated and taxed like alcohol - no under 18 use except medicinal, not driving while impaired, able to be grown for personal consumption, etc. If it's a cash crop, it should be inspected for quality and lack of contamination.

Hemp has more uses than getting high. Cloth, rope, oil, ground cover, livestock feed, paper pulp, etc. It is a hardy plant, easy to grow, and thus a very renewable resource. It even grows in crappy soil.

Legalization and national pardons for those convicted of marijuana offenses would reduce our prison expenditures significantly, reduce our policing costs by a lot too, and speed up the courts to handle real crimes. Just federal level legalization and pardons for weed crimes could knock a quick 10% or more off of our prison budgets in all states and at a federal level.

Prison guards out of work? Let them grow weed - they would then be producing a real good, not a parasitic "service".

Our nation imports too much, makes too little of its own goods and supplies, relies too much on stuff from outside its borders to survive. This could be a start to ending that.

Medically speaking, it does less harm than tobacco or even alcohol.
