Aw, Shit!

I got laid off today.

I rather expected it - we were actually overstaffed for what they wanted us to do. They were going more toward using the $parentcompany 's infrastructure, which is MicroSoft mostly. I do not excel at end user support.

I have three months severance, with COBRA, so I'm not too close to desperation yet.

So, I'm looking. Linux/Unix sysadmin, including VMWare and RedHat Enterprise Linux. I use Windows through XP, but I'd rather not support it. I have some basic, although dated, Cisco experience. I've tried very hard not to stagnate, so I am familiar with Ruby on Rails and various other admin technologies.

Also, I will be restarting my soap and candle making, maybe some other stuff. My creative itch needs to be scratched something fierce.

So, I'm bummed, and relieved, at the same time. I was there for over 4 years, which is forever in the IT field. I was past the point of burnout.

After a week or two of reset, I will be looking for a new and exciting job where I can once again make a difference. I'm a builder, and expander, not a helpdesk associate, and I know it. I want to build something, or take it from startup to world class.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you; I wish I had a referral to provide, but all I've got to offer is support.

Sorry to hear of the job loss.
May your Next Job be Fantastic! Making the x-job a dim memory.

On a practical note -- look into the COBRA match in the stimulus, if your state has accepted the funds. It might save you some money. I think.

This - I just got notice that my last job rendered me non-elegable for this, but those I know who are getting it are saving a bundle. In some cases, paying less than they were paying as their contribution.

let me know what sorts of things to send your way, and where to send them? If you want, I'd be happy to do a resume review and such too, though my resume style isn't US standard.

If you get the soap and candle making going enough to have some to sell, promote your wares over at crowdfunding. When/if we ever have enough spare $$$, I may be contacting you about some soap.

You have my empathy...

I'm praying for you.

I'm sorry to hear you were laid off. I know that the job was getting to you though. Not a bad severance package either, although I don't know what IT folks are getting. Around here, not much, nor is there any IT work, or very little. You will get something better. One door closes and another opens. May the new door open on something totally grand.

Welcome to the club. You musta been there a while , cause 3 months is more than I got :) My money runs out at the end of this week.

Took me more than a few weeks to deal with burnout.. MONTHS more like, and I am finally able to think about working again... Not sure if I am ready to, but I need to.

Welcome to the ranks, and may our sojourn here be terminated with a great opportunity that outdoes where we were before.

My latest COBRA payment thing said a reduction was upcoming, but didn't give details. Let's hope it does well for us.
