Healthcare

In the US, healthcare still involves leeches.

Only we call them "Insurance Companies" now.

Seriously, I'm pissed that the cowards in Congress have taken Single Payer National Healthcare off the table. Now the insurance leeches are lobbying hard to remove a public option.

These jackals want us to be required by law to pay them for the "privilege" of being cheese-pared and denied coverage. The health insurance and pharmaceutical industries are jackals, gnawing at the bones of the American people while we try to survive.

We must take the profit motive out of health insurance. Whether it's single payer, or requiring all health insurance to be provided by non-profit "co-op" style copmanies (mutualization), I don't care.

I'm tired of them making their obscene profits based on denial of coverage and squeezing the people who actually provide care.

Although removing the profit motive is helpful, its not going to prevent abusive practices entirely.

In some states, the healthcare insurance industry is required to be non-profit. They have of course found ways around the rules and occasionally get investigated and fined for that.

The best guarantees seem to be an active and effective regulatory body that takes public complaints seriously. These also exist in some (but not most) states.
